Missing Sequels

If you could create a sequel to one favorite (standalone) movie, which would it be? How would it build on the original?

This has caused me to have a quick run down my DVDs. I can’t remember enough of the endings to films. I’m stuck at Friends With Benefits, partly because it’s at the top of my pile and also because it might be good to know how Dylan and Jamie got on. I’d also like to know about Mr Harper too! I suppose that The Perks of Being a Wallflower might be interesting for character development too.

Another reason that I’m having difficulty is that the main character in some of my favourite standalone films actually died. I won’t include spoilers, but I’m not sure that’s necessarily the best way to start a sequel in most of the cases.

I sometimes feel that films are dragged on too much nowadays as they are supposed to be commercial successes rather than just successes in story telling. Pirates of the Caribbean didn’t need the fourth one, for example.

Hmm… I’m not feeling wordy tonight. I’ll leave it there. Talking about films means I can use OSTs for this bit…

If Heaven and Hell decide
That they both are satisfied –
Illuminate the No’s on their vacancy signs;
If there’s no one beside you
When your soul embarks,
Then I’ll follow you into the dark.
