When Childhood Ends

Write about a defining moment in your life when you were forced to grow up in an instant (or a series of instants).

I’m gonna change this slightly to “When did you realise you now had to be an adult?” because the original question requires a bit too much honesty.  I’m also aware that other people have gone through more in their lives than I and that makes me feel that things that have happened to me are not necessarily insignificant but are comparatively not so important.  Some would also say I’m still not grown up!

So the first thing for me where I realised I had to be an adult was my first utility bill. Bills were things that happened to my parents and that grown-ups complained about. Here I was, with one with my name on it! And I had to pay it! The cheek of it!

Can you pay my bills?
Can you pay my telephone bills?
Do you pay my automo’ bills?
If you did then maybe we could chill
I don’t think you do
So, you and me are through
