A True Saint

In 300 years, if you were to be named the patron saint of X, what would you like X to be? Places, activities, objects — all are fair game.

Running through the traits that I think most people would come up with when they think of me, the one that first sprung to mind was “being grumpy”. I like a good complain. It’s good for the soul.

I’m not overly opinionated about a great deal, but some things just vex me. It annoys me when simple things become complicated. I rang up my mobile phone provider once because they used to have a facility where I got a certain amount of data and messages to use abroad which was very useful when I was travelling. I got notice that they were no longer providing that facility, so I rang them up. They confirmed that they had stopped that program and that there was nothing they could do to get it back. After a bit more complaining and asking for the options they offered me something else which had exactly the same benefits. Turns out the program had changed name. It took a 15 minute phone call to get that far.

One that has annoyed me recently is my green recycling bin. I now loan the one from the farm across the road as they have little use for it. Having filled two of them the previous week, I left both outside my house to be collected. When I got home, one was still full. Apparently the reason for this is because they are only allowed to collect one per household. When I asked what would have happened if I put the extra bin 10 meters away on the other side of the road, they replied that it would have been collected.

Unfortunately I fear that Western society at least has already given the job of Grumpy Bastard to 1/7 of a group of dwarfs.

I dont want excuses,
I dont want your smiles,
I dont want to feel like
We’re apart a thousand miles.
