The Guilt that Haunts Me

Share a time when you were overcome with guilt. What were the circumstances? How did you overcome you guilt?

I wasn’t going to post this but I thought of a great song to get my lyric from as at the bottom of nearly all my posts!

It’s very easy to make me feel guilty. There was a quote attributed to Ricky Gervais on Facebook a few weeks ago that read “Just because you’re offended doesn’t mean you’re right”. I appreciate the sentiment wholeheartedly (did I know that was all one word before I just typed it?!) but even if I don’t think I’ve done anything wrong I can still feel guilty if I’ve done something that adversely affects someone else. I said a few days ago that I get my kicks from being useful. The other end of the scale is that I feel really bad when I either can’t be useful or have done something detrimental.

The last time I can remember feeling most guilty was that car accident I had in July. As I mentioned in “She Said“, I put people in danger and I hate that. I still feel guilty that I did it nearly 5 months later and I still never want it to happen again, but it’s not as bad as it was. I can’t pinpoint a time when the feeling mellowed so perhaps that old adage of Time being a healer might be right.

So, the lyric quote! Woohoo! I’ll put a video too. I love this band, not least because they once played Ghostbusters live at a show. They are brilliant live. At one gig of theirs that I was at in Manchester they decided they had to play an Oasis song (being in Manchester). The lead singer declared that he knew how to play Wonderwall but didn’t know all the words, so the band played acoustically and the audience sang the whole song back at them. It was a special atmosphere. Anyway…

I put a shield upon you,
Didn’t mean to hurt you.
I would’ve only poisoned your mind.
Never meant to make you cry.
