Can’t Stand Me

What do you find more unbearable: watching a video of yourself, or listening to a recording of your voice? Why?

I’m going to add photos in to the mix of this one. I don’t generally like seeing pictures of myself. I have a few that I like – one because I think I genuinely look OK on it and the other because of who I’m with in it. I have some others but I’m not one of these people who wants to take loads of photos of friends on nights out or, even worse, selfies.

I think the last time I listened to my recorded self was probably 15 years ago. I used to record notes to revise for exams, utilising that idea of playing it at night while I was asleep. I’m not sure if it did any good to be honest. I didn’t have a problem with this but I didn’t think I sounded like me. I sounded more boring recorded than I think I do when I’m speaking!

As far as I know, there’s only one video two videos of me still in existence. One is fairly boring. The other is from the Mike Butterworth Cup Final in 2015. This is the video and it will start playing from my first appearance. I’m the one in the white shirt, number 13, wearing bright green boots at the bottom of the screen… (If that doesn’t work, fast forward to 17:52).

I run like Jack Sparrow when I try to sprint. In my defence, I was massively inflexible at this point and this is the first time I did more than walk since having a really bad back. I’m not sure my boots do me any favours either cause they just make my feet stand out!

If only I’d thought of the right words
I could have held on to your heart
If only I’d thought of the right words
I wouldn’t be breaking apart
All my pictures of you
