Frivolous Proposals And Why Ana Turned Me Down

I think if I was asked to write about my favourite word, “frivolous” would probably be it.  Not only is it fun to say, but it also seems to be remarkably useful at the moment (or maybe I’m just getting less trusting)!

I first heard the word while watching cricket where there is such a thing as a frivolous appeal.  In cricket, the bowling team should always appeal to the umpire to give an opposing player out even if it’s obvious.  However, similar in theory to The Boy Who Cried Wolf, the frivolous appeal is where is it stupidly obvious that the opponent is not out but still the umpire receives an appeal.

I have been partial to a bit of frivolity myself however much some would disagree!

I’ve mentioned before that I’m usually seen as the guy someone would like to marry rather than date.  I was seen as the person you’d like to take home to meet the parents rather then person to mess about with.  I was the serious and stable person rather than being fun, fearless and fancy free.  Whatever the rights and wrongs of that, I have actually had a marriage proposal turned down.

Her name was Ana.  Not only is she one of the sexiest people on the planet, but she’s really good at what she does for a living and also does a lot of charity work.  And, apparently, she’s one of the most lovely people ever.  I knew where she’d be and travelled 250 miles to surprise her and, as she was stood in front of me, I asked her to marry me.  She asked me how much money I had and politely declined.

Of course, it was only a frivolous proposal but at least I can add a professional tennis player (a previous world number 1 no less) to the list of people to have turned me down!  At the time I believe she was dating Adam Scott the golfer and she’s now dating football World Cup Winner, Nazi doll doppelgänger and Manchester United Benchwarmer Bastian Schweinsteiger.  I have no idea what she didn’t see in me!

In search for personality
We people always think the clothing makes a man
In fact there’s such ha difference in all
What we think and how we understand

My left is your right
Your day is my night
Their darkness is our light

Reflections of a shadow
Reflections of my mind

We’re looking for externals
And the eye gets blind in insincerity
But when I hear you talking
Then your soul lies free for everyone to see

And what I do
Becomes my proof
Our acts draw our portraits

And in the night
We make it right
In dreams we find our light

Reflections of a shadow
Reflections of my mind
Reflections of a shadow
Reflecting in the night

This was just brilliant. I too have made a proposal to Adam Levine from Maroon 5. Why he chose the Victoria Secrets Model over me I will NEVER understand! I feel your pain.

    • It’s like they don’t think us “normal” people exist! Their loss though, I say!
