I Can’t See Dragons In The Shadows

I have a confession to make – I’m probably the only person in the world who watches Game of Thrones and doesn’t think that it’s the best TV program ever.  For me, that honour is given to the The Newsroom.  One of the biggest problems I have with GoT is that most of it seems to be filmed in the shadows and I have a really shiny TV in a very well lit room.

I do still watch and enjoy the adventures of Jon Snow et al, the dragons and ex cast members of Hollyoaks most of whom have, at one point or another, appeared in various states of undress.  It’s just that there are large chunks of it I can’t really see properly.  And yes, I know castles aren’t the most well lit of places but most of the biggest scenes seem to take place in darkness.

Sometimes shadows can be good.  For example, when I was in peak fitness I could make my progress photos looks better by standing underneath a light so as to cast shadows in just the right places.  I’m not really one for heat so will usually look for a shadow to sit in when the temperature gets too high.

However, not being able to see anything filmed in shadows on my TV is irritating, not least because I put a lot of effort in to the research of which TV to buy and its shiny screen wasn’t anything I thought about.  What I did look at was 3D performance and now hardly anyone broadcasts in it!

I’ve always thought with technology that there has to be a business niche somewhere to try before you buy.  Got a PC? Try this Mac for a bit.  Think you want an iPad? Here, try this for a week and see if you actually use it.

It’s not just technology though.  With anything I think it would be great if you could do something on a trial basis.  You know, just see if it works out without anything to lose.  I’ve mentioned before my fears of having something great and not wanting to gamble that by trying to make it better.  I know that’s safe at best and cowardly at worst, but that’s just the way I do things.  I sometimes don’t do something out of fear of failure and sometimes I don’t do it because someone else just does it better.

It’s the latter bit that bothers me.  I like being that person that someone turns to when they need someone and when I’m not, it sucks.  It sucks more when I haven’t tried to be that person even if I was doing it for good reason.

What would you do if you knew you couldn’t fail?  Would help you step out of the shadows and be the better person?

I close both locks below the window
I close both blinds and turn away
Sometimes solutions aren’t so simple
Sometimes goodbye’s the only way, oh

And the sun will set for you
The sun will set for you
And the shadow of the day
Will embrace the world in gray
And the sun will set for you

In cards and flowers on your window
Your friends all plead for you to stay
Sometimes beginnings aren’t so simple
Sometimes goodbye’s the only way, oh

And the sun will set for you
The sun will set for you
And the shadow of the day
Will embrace the world in gray
And the sun will set for you

And the shadow of the day
Will embrace the world in gray
And the sun will set for you

And the shadow of the day
Will embrace the world in gray
And the sun will set for you

I used to love being in the shadows and then me and Hank Marvin had a falling out! Sorry, couldn’t resist. Seriously though, I used to be afraid of stepping out of the shadows for fear of failure or rejection. Then I thought, “You know, a comfort zone is a wonderful place, but nothing ever happens there. Sometimes, you just gotta say f**k it!” I’ve been saying it ever since and never looked back!

    • That pun is shocking! But I do really like the sentiment so I’ll let you off! 😉😜
