A Stroll Under Black Skye

One of the things that my brother does accidentally, but which annoys me immensely, is the way he only has one walking speed.  I wouldn’t so much class it as a stroll, but more of an amble.

He or his company could be in a great rush but he still moves at only the one, slow pace.  As I said, he’s not doing it to be difficult, that’s just the way he does it.  It’s also not necessarily because he’s taking everything in and enjoying things because that’s the speed he moves in the most inclement of weather.

It’s why I call it more of an amble than a stroll.  Stroll infers enjoyment of one’s surroundings without necessarily the requirement for exercise.  The fact it takes place on two feet is kind of incidental in that it’s just the best way to see what you what to want to see.

I’m on dog sitting duty at the moment and took this as a great opportunity to take my new Nikon D5500 for a whirl.  Skye (The Puppy From Hell) and I went for a stroll through the fields and to the lake at the back of my parents’ house.  This was an activity I used to do a lot as a kid, walking down the track, across the field, cross the road at the corner, walk across another field and arrive at my grandparents’ farm.

This evening the sun was setting and having the camera round my neck made me notice some things I wouldn’t usually look for if the activity was just exercising the animal.  I thought I’d share some of the photos.  They’re not the best and some of them haven’t resized very well, but they’re still fairly large in file size I wouldn’t recommend you looking at them in full size if you’re a phone with a limited data plan!

I’m a little disappointed with the photo of the jetty because that’s got blurry when it was resized and was the hardest picture to get because I lay on the floor, I had a six month old black labrador lying on me thinking we were playing!

I know it’s a common theme of this blog to appreciate the things around you and be happy in the now, but it is something I think is really important.  Going at my brother’s pace makes it all the easier.

I keep a close watch on this heart of mine
I keep my eyes wide open all the time
I keep the ends out for the tie that binds
Because you’re mine, I walk the line

I find it very, very easy to be true
I find myself alone when each day is through
Yes, I’ll admit that I’m a fool for you
Because you’re mine, I walk the line

As sure as night is dark and day is light
I keep you on my mind both day and night
And happiness I’ve known proves that it’s right
Because you’re mine, I walk the line

You’ve got a way to keep me on your side
You give me cause for love that I can’t hide
For you I know I’d even try to turn the tide
Because you’re mine, I walk the line

I keep a close watch on this heart of mine
I keep my eyes wide open all the time
I keep the ends out for the tie that binds
Because you’re mine, I walk the line
