Time And Place

As a kid I had an amazing knack of finding money in the street.  It wasn’t just random small value coins, I found paper money at Loch Ness and just outside a supermarket.  Even now I seem to spend a lot of time looking down while walking even if I have to rely on working to provide me with enough money to live!

It was while I was walking down a pier to the beach that I looked up and saw this.

Version 2

For those who want to know, the photo was taken on an iPhone 6S Plus.

It’s one of the lights above the pier.  The thing I like about this photo is that you can’t tell what time of year it is or even where it is.  OK, I guess if you really knew your piers or had the time you could probably find it, but it could be anywhere at anytime.

What do you reckon? Blue skies, sunshine, me at a beach.  Middle of summer, right?

Actually, no.  (I’m sure you probably guessed it wasn’t going to be obvious!)  Maybe the low sunshine is a clue that this was actually taken in winter, specifically at the end of November last year.

The other thing I like and hate (at the same time) about this picture is the reflection in the glass of the light.  If you look at a small version of the picture it looks like an eye looking back at you which freaks me out a little!  If you zoom in though, you can see everything on the horizon in the shape of the glass.  I think the colour contours are amazing too.

Version 2

(You might want to click the image to view it in the lightbox on a computer to see all the detail.  Oddly I can’t make myself out!)

The other thing I wish I’d have done better with the photo is getting it more symmetrical. It’s only a minor thing and I’m sure I can rotate it but one of the supports is out of focus too.  I did have a few attempts but the thing about looking up is that you begin to have no idea of what is going on around you.

For a cold day it was the pier was remarkably busy and I was aware of getting in the way or people walking in to me!  I actually felt a little vulnerable taking it.  It’s kind of a nice paradox with the photo that not only can you not tell the time or the place, but it also gives you very little idea of what’s going on at the place too.

Nikola, we’re gonna make a difference
Nikola, we’re gonna make a difference

Everywhere that you cruise
Every world that you rule
Every line that you say
Has it’s time and it’s place

Every stare that you see
Everyone that you meet
Every line that you say
Has it’s time and it’s place yeah

Visions move all the time don’t get left behind
This is love this is faith this is my design

Nikola, we’re gonna make a difference
Nikola, we’re gonna make a difference

Everywhere that you cruise
Every world that you rule
Every line that you say
Has it’s time and it’s place

Every stare that you see
Everyone that you meet
Every line that you say
Has it’s time and it’s place yeah

We’re all waiting,
For the world to stop rotating

We’re all waiting,
For the world to stop rotating

Everywhere that you cruise
Every world that you rule
Every line that you say
Has it’s time and it’s place

Every stare that you see
Everyone that you meet
Every line that you say
Has it’s time and it’s place yeah

We’re all waiting,
For the world to stop rotating

We’re all waiting,
For the world to stop rotating
