A Mountain Out Of A Molehill

I went to a school where Religious Studies was a mandatory subject of study.  We were taught by a guy who was rumoured to have a wooden foot after an accident with a lawnmower, only for a long time I’m not sure he really taught us anything.

That was because, at the start of the lesson, someone would always raise their hand and say “Sir, when is the world going to end?”  The fact that this question was asked and answered every week for as long as I can remember makes me think (against the years of experience I’ve gained since) that the joke must have been on us.  All of a sudden I don’t feel as guilty as I did about another kid in class playing with the classroom’s AV system with his TV controller watch to make the teacher think that a demon was present.

I don’t know if anyone else noticed the dramatic news that, yet again, the world was due to end a few days ago on 29th July.  Even more dramatically, it didn’t.  This is good, because it meant I got to go see Finding Dory and I really would have been annoyed if the Apocalypse had have disrupted that rollercoaster of feels.

The End Times Prophecies video on YouTube suggested that the Earth’s poles were going to flip round.  This would cause earthquakes and dust clouds and all manner of disaster.  As Nasa noted in 2011 though, “science shows that magnetic pole reversal is – in terms of geologic time scales – a common occurrence that happens gradually over millennia”.

It’s interesting how people make mountains out of molehills.  Some people think about something so much that they magnify it into something that isn’t, blowing it up out of all proportion.  The other way to do it is to take dirt from somewhere else and put it on top of the smaller issue.  This can make it hard to see what the actual issues are that are being resolved or which agenda is being served.

We used to feign interest at school because we noticed that we got no homework if we weren’t taught anything in class!  In this instance of Armageddon, I just wonder if End Times Prophecies are dramatically making a mountain out a molehill to get a bit more publicity for themselves.

I could stay awake just to hear you breathing
Watch you smile while you are sleeping
While you’re far away and dreaming
I could spend my life in this sweet surrender
I could stay lost in this moment forever
Every moment spent with you is a moment I treasure

Don’t wanna close my eyes
I don’t wanna fall asleep
‘Cause I’d miss you, baby
And I don’t wanna miss a thing

‘Cause even when I dream of you
The sweetest dream would never do
I’d still miss you, baby
And I don’t wanna miss a thing

Lying close to you feeling your heart beating
And I’m wondering what you’re dreaming,
Wondering if it’s me you’re seeing
Then I kiss your eyes and thank God we’re together
And I just wanna stay with you
In this moment forever, forever and ever

I don’t wanna close my eyes
I don’t wanna fall asleep
‘Cause I’d miss you, baby
And I don’t wanna miss a thing

‘Cause even when I dream of you
The sweetest dream would never do
I’d still miss you, baby
And I don’t wanna miss a thing

I don’t wanna miss one smile
I don’t wanna miss one kiss
Well, I just wanna be with you
Right here with you, just like this

I just wanna hold you close
I feel your heart so close to mine
And just stay here in this moment
For all the rest of time, yeah, yeah, yeah!

Don’t wanna close my eyes
Don’t wanna fall asleep
‘Cause I’d miss you, baby
And I don’t wanna miss a thing

‘Cause even when I dream of you
The sweetest dream would never do
I’d still miss you, baby
And I don’t wanna miss a thing

I don’t wanna close my eyes
I don’t wanna fall asleep
‘Cause I’d miss you, baby
And I don’t wanna miss a thing

‘Cause even when I dream of you
The sweetest dream would never do
and I’d still miss you, baby
And I don’t wanna miss a thing

Don’t wanna close my eyes
I don’t wanna fall asleep, yeah
I don’t wanna miss a thing
I don’t wanna miss a thing
