Dear Instagram, Did You Mean It?

Dear Instagram,

I don’t know if you meant it, but after updating to v9.0 on my iPhone I now get a lovely long stream of activity in my “Following” feed.

I’m not being sarcastic when I say that it’s lovely, either.  You see, for me, a social network is about connection with friends.  I know a lot of people, including myself, use it out of interest in to what is happening with famous people and others that we don’t know, but the true value in social media is making us feel even more connected in the relationships that matter.

I follow 267 people on Instagram, but I actually care for maybe 10.  I know you introduced that fancy algorithm to my news feed that meant I don’t miss things from people I care about, but I guess that assumes that I “like” everything friends put up and, well, I don’t, cause that’s just weird.  And I know that I can get notifications, but that just feels like a workaround.

However, this longer list of activity means that I can keep up with things that might be of interest to me by knowing what is of interest to the people I care about without checking Instagram every 20 minutes.  It’s great.

Now, if you could just work out a way of doing lists all around the app so I can have a feed for my friends and a separate feed for other accounts I follow so I really don’t miss anything that I care about, that would be grand.

P.S.  Please don’t do Stories.
