Framing Movement

I’m not a great photographer by any means, but I like taking photographs.  I know that there a certain way to frame those photographs.

One of the things I love taking photos of is things like paths, canals and bridges going somewhere.  I love the idea of movement and travel.

However, I actually had a few other photos when it came to framing.  Here’s Moo peering at me under the sofa when I was about to leave him and go to work.

He doesn’t have much of a gap to watch me through.  Every time I leave him he gets five Dreamies which I throw around the room for him to chase.  He knows then that I’m leaving him and takes the opportunity to watch me through this tiny frame between sofa and floor to make me feel guilty!

The other photo I had was this one, and I’d have loved to be able to take it properly!

Unfortunately I couldn’t ask him if I could take his picture!  This from a walk down the canal earlier.  Down the opposite canal bank was loads of fishermen with what I would call “proper” rods.  Then there was this guy.  He was sat in his boat (hopefully wearing pants) with a rod that looked like a garden cane protruding from the open window.  And he was the only person I saw who caught something!

Looking at him framed by the window looking an absolute state (but it was Sunday) with his rubbish rod made me laugh, but then you kind of remember that there probably aren’t many places he would rather have been.  He doesn’t want to be going anywhere.

Some of those are not great photographs.  Many of them were taken on an iPhone 5S and iPhone 6S Plus.  Others were taken with a Samsung NX1000.

Sun come up it was blue and gold
Sun come up it was blue and gold
Sun come up it was blue and gold
Ever since I put your picture
In a frame.

I come calling in my Sunday best
I come calling in my Sunday best
I come calling in my Sunday best
Every since I put your picture
In a frame

I’m gonna love you
Till the wheels come off
Oh yea

I love you baby and I always will
I love you baby and I always will
I love you baby and I always will
Ever since I put your picture
In a frame

  1. I like the image of the fisherman framed in the porthole and I really like how to wrote about him – he doesn’t want to be going anywhere. How important to feel this way! Sometimes when I ask permission to take a photo it effects the subject in a way that doesn’t make a strong photo. It’s hard to know when to ask and when to make candid shots.
