Best Of Order

I childishly love Christmas.  I love trees and family and friends and lights and food… What I’m not a fan of, though, is how soon it starts.

I can’t remember when I saw Christmas stuff in the shops this year.  I remember it being a while ago though.  At the beginning of November I drive past a house with a tree and decorations up.  I think one of the things about Christmas is how long you have to wait for it, so I’ve always wondered if decorating your house so early may somewhat dilute the experience nearer the time.

But I guess everyone has an order in which they believe all things should happen, whether out of a sense of tradition, morals or because it’s just the right way.  That goes for all things, not just the countdown to the festive season.

However, I do have a few cues when it comes to that final run in towards the end of the year.

For me, October is when Autumn finally becomes Winter.  Pumpkin Spice Lattes arrive, X-Factor starts, Halloween and Bonfire Night happen and Starbucks Red Cups take over from the PSL.  That, for me, signifies that Christmas is getting nearer.  I know that sounds a little shallow maybe, and I wouldn’t go anywhere near as far as saying that it’s not this time of year without flavoured coffee, but it is certainly a reminder!

Once upon a time not so long ago
This boy he took to the stage
He wandered around like a travelling show
But one thing filled him with rage
While singing the song that thawed his heart
People would walk to the bar
The lights would go down
The music would start
He couldn’t get very far

Until one night…

Kick on the beat and bring on the bass
Everyone turn to look at my face
‘Cause all I want
Is the best of order, baby.
My light goes on and your light goes down
Wouldn’t you like to rock this town?
‘Cause all I want
Is the best of order, baby.

Now standing all alone
Looking through the smoke
This kid he started to grin
He’s tryin’ ta compete with bingo and jokes
There’s no use trying to win!

Until one night…

Kick on the beat and bring on the bass
Everyone turn to look at my face
‘Cause all I want
Is the best of order, baby.
My life is up when your life is down
Wouldn’t you like to rock this town?
‘Cause all I want
Is the best of order, baby.

Kick on the beat and bring on the bass
Everyone turn to look at my face
‘Cause all I want
Is the best of order, baby.
My life is up when your life is down
Wouldn’t you like to rock this town?
‘Cause all I want
Is the best of order, baby.

You never even know what you’re missing
Why doncha pay attention and listen?
Someone’s tryin’ ta blow your mind away!
Why doncha turn around and Im hoping
Two people in the front will stop groping
Someones tryin’ ta blow your mind away!

Kick on the beat and bring on the bass
Everyone turn to look at my face
‘Cause all I want
Is the best of order, baby.
My life is up when your life is down
Wouldn’t you like to rock this town?
‘Cause all I want
Is the best of order, baby.
