To Old Friends And Colleagues

Evening.  I think I’ll have a hot chocolate this week.

The week started off with me receiving some job security.  I think I should be happy about that but I kind of got my head round the idea that I was going to be paid to leave and, for the moment, I’m not.

The point was kind of hammered home this week when we had a big leaving party for 2 of my last three bosses and another person I’ve worked with.  There were loads of people there and we worked that there were more ex-employees there than current ones, which probably says everything.

We also noticed that those of us that were there would make a damn fine project team.  Fate of circumstance meant that most of the people there had been involved with global transformation projects within the business at the time where they are massively restructuring.  When the project ends, it’s easy to say that the role is now redundant and lose people. There are only two of us out of around 40 people who have survived their project, and we’ve managed both.

And, as I say, and this isn’t necessarily meaning to brag, we were bloody good at that we did.  We’ve spoken to other businesses and they weren’t able to achieve what we did.  It feels wrong to say inspirational, but it was great to be back amongst the old team because I learnt a great deal from them.  I thought that was a natural thing but, as time has gone on, I’ve found that isn’t always the case.  I only realised how lucky I was now those people aren’t there.

The most telling thing, though, was the fact that they were there.  It might not have been me leaving, but it did feel privileged to have worked with so many people who got on so well together to the extent that they would describe each other as friends.

So what else vaguely interesting happened this week?

I had a Super Tops Burger for the first time in about a decade.  They are absolutely amazing.  There a place called Southern Fried Chicken in Southport and we used to go there after a night out if we could make the walk down Lord Street without sustenance.

A Super Tops is a burger, cheese, bacon, pepperoni, salad and mayonnaise.  One of my mates was once do drink trying to order one that he became exasperated by his own inability to say what he wanted.  There was much huffing and puffing and many, many attempts to slut the words.  I put him out his misery and ordered it for him.

I re-signed for my Sunday League Football team after retirement.  I’ve got a lot of work to do before I’m in any shape to play, but it’s motivation.  That and the manager owed me £20 which I didn’t think I’d get back otherwise.

I bought a steam mop.  I know I shouldn’t be so pleased with it but it’s great if not just a really, really expensive regular mop.

I finally caught up on my laundry.  Go me.

I evolved an Ivysaur, Venusaur, Nidoking and Raichu in Pokémon Go. Please ignore my naming conventions! That means I’m 10 short of completing my Pokédex and three of those are non-European regionals.

I think that brings you up to date.  Hope you’ve been having fun.  Until next time…

See you in the western sky
On the best of nights
Out in the dark
You always seem to come my way
Come and take your shape
Out in the stars
I really want to know your name
See your face
Know who you are
Who you are

How did you find me?
How did you find me?
What are you looking for?
What are you looking for?
How did you find me?
How did you find me?
I see your shadow knocking at my door

Waiting on the smoke to rise
From behind your eyes
Take me away
Follow me into the wild
With a twisted smile
I can’t escape
And now I got you by my side
All my life
Day after day
Turn to grey

How did you find me?
How did you find me?
What are you looking for?
What are you looking for?
How did you find me?
How did you find me?
I feel your shadow knocking at my door

See you in the western sky
Behind your eyes
I can’t escape
From the grey

How did you find me?
How did you find me?
What are you looking for?
What are you looking for?
How did you find me?
How did you find me?
I feel your shadow
What are you looking for?

How did you find me?
How did you find me?
