Expert Advice

What do you do if you know someone has a problem and they go to an expert for help, but you (not an expert) don’t think that the advice that the person received is the right thing?

It’s a hard thing to explain without going in to specifics, and I’m not going to do that here.  However, there’s that regular story about fixing the symptom rather than the cause.

Fixing symptoms is easy.  It doesn’t require much effort.  It might be that the expert is tentatively tip-toeing in to something but the reaction of the other person suggests it isn’t that.  Part of it needs to be that you play your audience and you do what works for them.  I’m worried that that isn’t happening.

I realise this is a nothing post.  I thought writing something might help me think it through but it obviously hasn’t!

Help, I need somebody
Help, not just anybody
Help, you know I need someone, help

When I was younger, so much younger than today
I never needed anybody’s help in any way
But now these days are gone, I’m not so self assured
Now I find I’ve changed my mind and opened up the doors

Help me if you can, I’m feeling down
And I do appreciate you being round
Help me, get my feet back on the ground
Won’t you please, please help me

And now my life has changed in oh so many ways
My independence seems to vanish in the haze
But every now and then I feel so insecure
I know that I just need you like I’ve never done before

Help me if you can, I’m feeling down
And I do appreciate you being round
Help me, get my feet back on the ground
Won’t you please, please help me

When I was younger, so much younger than today
I never needed anybody’s help in any way
But now these days are gone, I’m not so self assured
Now I find I’ve changed my mind and opened up the doors

Help me if you can, I’m feeling down
And I do appreciate you being round
Help me, get my feet back on the ground
Won’t you please, please help me, help me, help me, oh
