Mixed Fortunes

Greetings.

So, if we were having a coffee this week, what would I be telling you about?

Erm… Well, I signed all the paperwork that means I will definitely be leaving work on 31st March.  HR finally agreed to all the changes we wanted to make to the agreement so, after seeing whether there was a legal way of avoiding paying some tax (there isn’t), I signed it and gave it in.

It felt a little strange, signing away my own job.  I’ve obviously signed any number of agreements before but this one feels different.  I’m not entirely sure how to explain it because the reality of the situation still hasn’t hit / bothered me, but willingly giving up a job without having another to go to, whether or not for compensation, sounds like a stupid idea.

Someone at work (who is also leaving) brought fortune cookies for us all.  Mine was quite encouraging:

Outside of work I’ve been to two football games this week and they’ve both been dreadful.  We went to one on Wednesday night I think it was.  I was really close to the pitch and, the lower you are, the worse your depth perception of the pitch is.  It was freezing cold.  Plus I had a Sky cameraman stood in front of me for much of the first half.

Before the match the mascot came out and took photos with people around is.  This is Might Red:

It’s a Liver Bird.  For some reason a question crossed my mind… If someone takes a photo with Mighty, do you reckon the person wearing the costume smiles for the picture?  Obviously they don’t need to.  It’s just something I’d like to know.

My training program is going OK.  I feel like I’m getting stronger.  I’ve also finally worked how to target the right muscles when bench pressing rather than just putting it all through my arms! So that’s a bit of a success.

I got my hair cut on Friday.  Barring a break in the middle, Claire has cut my hair for most of the last decade and I’ve never really ever given her a tip or anything because I don’t have the foresight to carry a reasonable amount of change.  On the few times I have, they genuinely act like I kind of shouldn’t be.

Before Christmas, in lieu of tips, I bought Claire a bottle of wine.  On Friday, as I was leaving, she said that she needed to say thank you to me.  Turns out that her grandad had died the day before she cut my hair before Christmas.  The bottle of wine I got her was his favourite and she always used to buy him a bottle for Christmas, so they used it to toast him.  It was a complete fluke on my part (I just chose an expensive-ish bottle that was on offer) but I like that it had a little extra significance.

That’s not the first time I’ve fluked a gift in such a way.  I like getting people lots of little presents for Christmas and birthdays, especially if I can’t find a “proper” gift.  One time I walked past a market stall that was selling all things polished rock.  I remembered a friend saying that she used to collect rocks so I picked up a ring from the stall in one of her favourite colours for only a few pounds.

Apparently the rock represents protection.  I had no idea but it carried a little extra meaning apparently because of that.  I can’t remember what it is even now, it was just a green rock that I thought might fit because I could get it on my little finger!

Erm, last night we went out to a place I loved first time we went.  Turns out I had to rewrite my review of Manchester Smokehouse and Cellar.  They were awful last night.  After that we went to Bøck.  It’s a new place and was really nice, although a tad strange to have table service in a bar like that.

What a lovely glass of orange juice. #lovely

Anyway, my reason for mentioning it is that we were sat at the window and about to sip on out drinks when I looked up and saw a guy throwing a big bag of rubbish right at the window in front of us! Drinks were choked on although pants weren’t entirely soiled even if it hit the window with a real bang.  The staff came to us to ask what had happened and we had to explain that someone was either really drunk and / or really not happy with the place!

So, to finish… Are you ready for this?

I HAVE A DRAGONITE!

I walked a Dratini 210 sodding kilometres and got the worst sodding moveset in the game for a Dragonite.  Oh well.  I have one now anyway.

I really hope that you had a great week and are looking forward to the next.  Until next weekend, have fun.

Does he meet you with heart shaped balloons
Offer you everything and never pull through
Does he love what you’ve done with the place?

Does he take you the Liquid Rooms after work
Just to unwind you but then goes and makes it worse
Can he do what I do for you?
Can he do what I do for you?
Can he do what I do for you?
Can he do what I do for you?
Can he do what I do for you?

And I’ve not stopped thinking this shit since I come away

Hey?
How about I change?
How about you look at me the same? Hey?
How about I change?
How about you love me again?

Does he assure you at 4 in the morning
That you just haven’t seen his good side yet
Does he love what you’ve done with the place?

And does he take you the Liquid Rooms after work
And does he join you on the tables baby
Can he do what I do for you?
Can he do what I do for you?
Can he do what I do for you?
Can he do what I do for you?
Can he do what I do for you?

And I’ve not stopped thinking this shit since I come away

Hey?
How about I change?
How about you look at me the same?
Hey?
How about I change?
How about you love me again?

Hey?
How about I change?
How about you look at me the same?
Hey?
How about I change?
How about you love me again?
Me again
Me again
Me again
