The Stressed And Angry Coffee Share

Hi,

If we were having a coffee this week, mine might need something in it to calm me down.  Perhaps it should be some sort of tea instead.

So, at work, I am managing three projects.  However, for political / business reasons out of my control, I’m not managing the budgets.  They are were also projects seemingly devised before I was given to them manage.

I hate coming in to the middle of things at the best of times.  Well, hate is maybe a strong word; I definitely have a strong preference to being there at the start.  Otherwise I’m having to get up to speed at the same as progressing and it just makes things a little harder.

I’m now going to contradict myself so you know how odd this all is.  Despite the projects happening, our partners are still building the business case for them.  They know how much they’re going to cost, they have rough titles, but they don’t know what they’re going to do and they don’t know why they’re going to do it.

When pushed on various aspects of the business cases, they simply fall apart, full of contradictions or at least facts that are obviously wrong.  On one call I asked why we were looking at something in particular and was told that they couldn’t think of anything else to do in their multi-hundred-thousand dollar project staffed with 8 people so they decided to do that.  I ask them if they can show me what they’ve done before with previous clients, and they can’t.

This is the source of my anger this week, and it probably is anger.  These are things that I could do myself much more cheaply or that a business team should be doing as part of their day job without the need for massive additional resource and a “project”.  I’m finding it so hard to focus with all the frustration.

In other news, I think I’ve said enough about the general election this week.  It’s been an interesting political time for Britain but I think it’s also highlighting that it’s not possible to please everyone and, when you don’t, they’ll have you for it.  I was in the pub when the exit poll news broke and you could pretty much tell who everyone had voted for because there was either hysterical laughter or shocked faces.  Of course, all would actually be fine if we could live in that perfect world of just wanting to get sh*t done properly rather than party politics.

I saw a magazine that reminded me of someone I knew with a top with bumblebees on it and differently coloured hair.

For some reason I thought of this person yesterday when I noticed a guy’s haircut.  Don’t know why.  Honestly, there was absolutely no link I can even think of now, but I thought of her and instantly hoped she was OK.  She would never let me say I worried about her because that would mean she didn’t have control of something.

I was more pleased that I should be with noticing all the fours in my car’s mileage (preceeded by a 1).

It also made me laugh that someone doesn’t like McDonald’s (they graffitied “Evil Junk” if you can’t read it) but doesn’t mind Greggs.

I upgraded my fruit juice to a mocktail that included grapefruit, pineapple, orange and… caramel. It was kind of  bizarre. Not unpleasant by any means.  Just a little odd.

I somehow missed a massive sign in front of my parking space and parked there anyway.  Still not sure what the additional risk was, but the space certainly wasn’t blocked off.

Moo Cat decided he’d sleep on feet which looks pretty damn uncomfortable, but he was purring his head off!

At least he seems pretty relaxed, which is more than can be said for me this last week.  I hope your’s has been a goodun’.

Hell to the liars
Here’s to you and me
Hell to the best of us
Here’s to you and me

Hell to the righteous ones
Here’s to them
The grey-suited walkers
Prestigious men

Here’s to the things you love
Here’s to those you fight enough
Hell to the rest of us
Here’s to the things you love
Here’s to the things you love

Those who are born with love
Here’s to you trying
And I’m no better than those I judge
With all my suffering

Hell to the liars
Here’s to you and me
I look way above us
Seeing no one free

Here’s to the things you love
Here’s to those you fight enough
Hell to the rest of us
Here’s to the things you love
Here’s to the things you love

Here’s to the things you love
Here’s to those you fight enough
Hell to the rest of us
Here’s to the things you love
Here’s to the things you love
