The Right Tool For The Job

I was looking round my work desk and decided it was time to have a bit of a clear out.  I wouldn’t say I was buried under paper, but in December I’m going to be vacating the desk so I figured I’d get ahead of things and remove items such as Starbucks takeaway cup holders and many, many out of date, funny flavoured tea bags.

The interesting thing about my desk is that in, an effort to limit my paper usage, I make all my notes on an iPad (it also means I can search my notes, convert them to type etc), but I still have lots of little pieces of paper with numbers and names and stuff written on them.  Today I disposed of a Hotel Chocolat invoice with many a fine doodle.

There’s something nice with, all the technology we have, going back to something as rudimentary as pen and paper.

Obviously with tech, there has been a drive to get everything smaller and more portable.  That was until online porn became more available and everything started getting bigger again! But anyway…

Given the drive for portability, it was amusing to see a tweet last week of a woman who had taken her full desktop computer on to the train.

I did some checking, and if that’s a 21 inch iMac, it weighs nearly 9.5kg. It’s a fair thing to be carrying around. So many options from technology and paper, and she seems to have had gone for one that, on the surface, was the worst option.
